Professor Víctor Goldgel Carballo receives Ezequiel Martínez Estrada prize

On January 28, Cuba’s Casa de las Américas announced that an international jury has awarded this year’s Ezequiel Martínez Estrada essay prize for the most significant study of Latin American literature and culture to Associate Professor Víctor Goldgel Carballo for his book Cuando lo nuevo conquistó América: Prensa, moda y literatura en el siglo XIX  (Siglo XXI Editores, 2013). 

Previous winners of the Ezequiel Martínez Estrada prize include Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Beatriz Sarlo, Julio García Espinosa, William Ospina, Grinor Rojo and  Héctor Díaz Polanco. Professor Goldgel’s book has already received the Latin American Studies Association’s Premio Iberoamericano, and the department congratulates him on his extraordinary achievement.
