The selection of these nine students was based on their demonstrated commitment to with their communities, particularly through service and outreach to Spanish-speaking communities in the United States and abroad. The students’ numerous service activities included working as tutors and childcare volunteers at the Centro Hispano and Literacy Network here in Madison, assisting with community-based research projects focused on health and child development, and volunteering at hospitals, clinics, and schools both in Wisconsin and while studying abroad in Spain. We in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese are very fortunate to have the chance to work with such exceptional and socially engaged students!
