Studying languages has made me a more understanding and communicative individual. In the case of Swahili, we spent the majority of time third year discussing political and societal issues in East Africa. By forcing myself to think critically and express myself using a completely different grammatical system and vocabulary, I broadened my capacity to understand another culture.

Learning languages has enriched my life in many ways, and has has enabled me to communicate with people with whom I would otherwise not be able to communicate.

I feel passionate about learning, exploring, and growing through language education and cultural understanding.

I feel passionate about correcting misconceptions about bilingual education.

Studying language at UW-Madison has weaved its way through many facets of my life, always enriching and always improving me.

Professionally, studying languages have shown my potential employers my dedication to learning and my cognitive abilities..they definitely stand out on a resume and make you a memorable candidate.

I think I am more creative and unique because I speak three languages. I appreciate different cultures fully and embrace different art, tastes, sounds and places.

Once you open yourself up to learning world languages, they will open you up to the world.

More than the ability to communicate in Spanish that has benefited my career, I know that my Spanish Language major immeasurably improved my ability to communicate in English.

Language training at UW-Madison has been an indispensable part of my research endeavors.
