Sarli E. Mercado (Ph.D. Boston University) is a literary critic and author of Cartografías del destierro: en torno a la poesía de Juan Gelman y Luisa Futoransky. (Cartographies of Exile: On the Poetry of Juan Gelman and Luisa Futoransky) (Buenos Aires: Editorial Corregidor, 2008). She has presented and published articles on Spanish American contemporary poetry in the United States, Latin America and Europe. She is currently working on projects on the production and proliferation of traumatic memory sites in urban spaces in Latin America as wells as research projects on the relationship between poetry, the visual arts and the Global South. Included in her research are topics related to the poetic practices of twenty first century Central American writers and Southern Cone women poets. She also teaches courses on Spanish American literature, culture and language through subjects such as journalism and urban studies.
