Erwin was born and raised in Venezuela. A job from Disney brought him to the States. At Epcot he met people from all the corners of the Spanish-speaking world, inspiring him to teach Spanish at a high school. He feels like he bumped into linguistics by chance, but ever since he took his first linguistics course he was hooked! He likes to climb syntactic trees, from the morphological roots to the semantics branches. He also likes comparative grammar. In particular, he likes to tease out what pieces of grammar are allowed in one language but not in another. It’s like a puzzle he wants to share with his students and see if they can solve it together.
