Congratulations to our 2026 Graduate Student Summer Research and Dissertation Write-Up awards winners!

DISSERTATION WRITE-UP AWARDEES:

· Martiniano Etchart will work on his dissertation project entitled “Exploring Language Teacher Well-Being in Argentina Across Institutional Environments: An Analysis of Belonging, Enjoyment, and Professional Social Networks.”

· Estefanía Galindo will use the award funds to advance her dissertation project on phrase-final intonation patterns in yes-no questions produced by speakers of Colombian Caribbean Spanish.

· Álex Lara will take advantage of the award to complete his dissertation project entitled: “Herencia y pasión en Chipilo: un análisis del enraizamiento cultural y social.”

· Annika Wallander will work on her dissertation project, which examines the role of a pronunciation-training application—which she co-developed—in L2 Spanish vowel acquisition and overall communicability (i.e., the extent to which a speaker successfully conveys their intended message in a way that enables listener understanding).

 

SUMMER RESEARCH AWARDEES:

· Alan Andrade Camacho will use the award funds to carry out a field study at the recently inaugurated Biblioteca Nacional de El Salvador (BINAES) to examine “resistant strategies in neo-authoritarian regimes in Latin America and their public/government institutions.”

· Andrés Correal will continue his research on a project that explores “Spanish Graduate Instructors’ Beliefs and Responses in Classroom Scenarios.”

· Anhelé Sánchez Delgado will use the summer to conduct research for her newest project, and potential dissertation topic, entitled: “Genealogy of Presence: Rosario Castellanos in the United States.”
