The Graduate Studies Committee would like to announce that Levi Cross has won the Fall 2021 Graduate Student Best Paper Award with the paper titled Movimento em tempos crip: Ondas sônicas e metafísicas de resistência subalterna em Também os brancos sabem dançar. In this paper, Levi analyzes Angolan artist Kalaf Epalanga’s autofictional novel and connects it with the experience of African migrants in Europe, the musical genre of kuduro, and the concept of “crip time”. The members of the award subcommittee were particularly impressed by the originality of the paper, the theoretical underpinnings of its arguments, and its engagement with the larger discourses of neoliberalism, geopolitics, and corporal resistance. Please join us in congratulating Levi on his accomplishment.
