Congratulations are in order for Professor Kata Beilin, who has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award to conduct research in Mexico during the 2022-23 Academic Year. Professor Beilin will use this prestigious award to complete a book project titled With the Bees and Maize: How the Mayas of Yucatán Take their World Back. The book focuses on the Mayas’ attempts to revitalize their culture based on their relations with nature and responding to the harm brought to their land by globalization. Professor Beilin will be based at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatan (UADY) and by the Intercultural (Mayan) University of Quintana Roo. In addition to her research, she will co-teach a class on Indigenous Ways of Knowing in the Fall and give a series of workshops on Transdisciplinarity in the Spring.
