On Wed. October 18, Santiago Vaquera-Vásquez is visiting our campus and giving a lecture. He is a scholar, writer, painter, photographer and ex-DJ. An Associate Professor and chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of New Mexico, his area of academic work is 20th and 21st century Latin American and Latinx literature and cultural studies, with a particular focus on the construction of diverse “imaginative geographies” in border spaces, narratives about journeys in Chicano/a literature and culture, and U.S. literature written in Spanish. He is the co-author of the Latina/o Midwest Reader (University of Illinois Press, 2017), and of various collections of short stories and a novel: Algún día te cuento las cosas que he visto (2012), Luego el silencio (2014), One Day I’ll Tell You the Things I’ve Seen (2015), En el Lost y Found (2016), and Nocturno de frontera (2020).
